Programming Languages

  • Algorithm for the Analytical Engine

    Algorithm for the Analytical Engine
The very first programming language can refer all the way back to 1883. Ada Lovelace creates a machine, (the Analytical Engine), that performs complicated calculations for the purpose of helping with Bernoulli number calculations.
  • Shortcode

    Shortcode
The first language implemented into electronic computers. Implemented onto the BINAC computer by William Schmitt and suggested by John Mauchly.
  • Autocode

    Autocode
Being the first (possibly) compiled program, Autocode was more widespread as it is now a faster method of running code. Developed by Alick Glennie.
  • FORTRAN

    FORTRAN
Developed by IBM, FORTRAN is the first widely spread highly effective computer language that is still being used today.
  • C

    C
Dennis Ritchie, the creator of C, founded UNIX. UNIX is an operating system widely used, and C is the father of many different programming languages still used today, like C++, C#, Java, etc.
  • Objective C

    Objective C
Created by a small company named Stepstone, Objective C was the base for Apple products while still being used in other products. Objective C was eventually replaced by Swift, another programming language in the 2010's which is specific to Apple.
  • Python

    Python
Guido van Rossum created Python, a commonly used programming language even now. Python makes programming easier while still having a wide variety of possibilities and things to do.
  • Java/Javascript

    Java/Javascript
Java was created by Sun Microsystems Inc. with the intention to make a language with the ability to let "consumer electronic devices communicate with each other".
