Chapter 1
The inhabitants and especially Mrs. Bennet are excited by the news of the arrival of the bachelor Mr. Bingley.
Mrs. Bennet wants one of her five daughters to have a chance to attract her interest. -
Chapter 2
Mr. Bennet pays a surprise visit to Bingley.
And then in the course of this chapter,
Darcy's feelings towards Elizabeth are generated. -
Chapter 3
There is a ball at Meryton.Darcy is described to us as handsome, but proud and aloof. Bingley, on the other hand, is kinder and more smiling and dances all the dances.
In this dance Bingley shows much interest in Jane, praising her as the most beautiful girl he has ever seen. Bingley suggests to Darcy that he finds someone to dance with and names Elizabeth, the brother says she is not pretty enough for him. Elizabeth finally overhears him and becomes angry. -
Chapter 4
Jane and Elizabeth praise Bingley's appearance, humor and manners. And in return they comment some more about their relatives.
The sisters go on to comment that Bingley is sociable and well-liked, while Darcy is always so aloof that he offends people. -
Chapter 5
The next morning, Bennet goes to gossip about the dance with his neighbors.
They all comment on Bingley's feelings to Jane. The conversation quickly veers to Darcy, whom they say has caused offense to all who have tried to speak to him. Also in this chapter we see Charlotte and Elizabeth discussing Darcy's insult and Elizabeth refuses to forgive him.
