  • No co-payment for some preventive services

Under the Affordable Care Act, you and your family may be eligible for some important preventive services — which can help you avoid illness and improve your health — at no additional cost to you. This preventive services provision applies only to people enrolled in job-related health plans or individual health insurance policies created after March 23, 2010.
  • Free Preventive Services

Many preventive services are under covered under Medicare if you get them from a doctor or other health care provider who accepts assignment. Services that qualify are yearly wellness exam, tobacco use cessation counseling and a number of screenings.
  • Establishment of the Prevention and Public Health Fund

The ACA’s Prevention & Public Health Fund is designed to expand and sustain the necessary capacity to prevent disease, detect it early, manage conditions before they become severe, and provide states and communities the resources they need to promote healthy living. In FY2010, $500 million of the Fund was distributed to states and communities to boost prevention and public health efforts, improve health, enhance health care quality, and foster the next generation of primary health professionals.
  • Community Transformation Grants

On September 27, 2011, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced more than $103 million in Community Transformation Grant funding to states and communities across the country to fight chronic disease, which is the leading cause of death in America. This is critical to the MH/SUD population because an estimated 70% of people with a MH/SUD have another chronic health condition.
  • States Receive Increased FMAP for Preventive Services

States receive and increase Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) for any clinical preventive services that are assigned a grade of A or B by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, adult vaccinations, and some other services.
  • Small Employer Wellness Programs

Grants to eligible employers to provide their employees with access to comprehensive workplace wellness programs.
