The Newlands Reclamation Act established the law that authorized the federal government to build dams and reservoirs in Western states. The act promoted settlement into these western states by providing irrigation systems. -

The Acquisition Act of 1906 is passed
The Acquisition Act of 1906 was enacted in response to growing concern of the loss of Native American artifacts and ruins. It allows the president executive orders to restrict the use of property owned by the federal government.

Roosevelt establishes "Devil's Tower" as first national monument

TR gives the proclamation to school children
President Roosevelt gives a speech addressed to the school aged children of the nation to educate and motivate them to adopt conservationist views. The president does this on Arbor Day and states "It is well that you should celebrate your Arbor Day thoughtfully, for within your lifetime, the Nation's need of trees will become serious."

The Conference of Governors
The Conference of Governors was a conference called by President Roosevelt to discuss conservation issues. The conference led to 38 state conservation commissions and a declaration of conservation by the governors. The conference also led to the National Conservation Commission.
