  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The proclamation issued by king George III stated that the colonist could not move west of the Appalachian mountains. The colonist moved to the west, violating the proclamation.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Sugar Act was a law that attempted to curb the smuggling of sugar and molasses in the colonies by putting tax on foreign made molasses. Prosecutors still smuggled foreign made molasses into colonies.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The stamp act required all colonist to pay tax on special stamped paper for every legal document. The Sons of Liberty, founded by Samuel Adams, harassed workers, stamp agents, and royal governors.
  • Repeal of Stamp Act

    Repeal of Stamp Act
    The parliament voted to repealed the stamp act. However, on that same day the parliament passed the Declaratory Rights to show the British still have power over the colonist.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Boston Massacre was a colonial propaganda. A fist fight broke out between the colonist and the British over jobs, only five colonist were killed. Samuel Adams defends the British in court, only two british were guilty.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Parliament passed the Tea Act to help English Tea companies gain more. The Sons of liberty protested with other colonists and dumped 18,000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor as they were dressed as Native Americans.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    The British responded to the Boston Tea Party by passing a series of harsh laws, to punish the colonists, called the Intolerable acts. The Massachusetts Government Act curtailed self-government there, the Quartering Act forced colonists to house British soldiers in their homes when ordered to. This caused the colonist to create the first continental congress. It was the first time the colonies acted as a united government.
