  • End of French-Indian War

    End of French-Indian War

  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    This act was used to gain revenue for Britain through merchantism, so they colonists got taxed for getting sugar and molasses even though they had no say in the law.   • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    Townsend Acts

  • Boston Massacre/Boston Riot

    Boston Massacre/Boston Riot
    Colonists stood in Boston to protest British taxes (such as the Townsend Act). British soldiers came and told the colonists to leave. Colonists threw the first rock and British men opened fire, killing seven colonists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Massacre
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The objectives were to undercut smuggled tea prices in Britain's North American colonies. This was supposed to convince the colonists to purchase Company tea on which the Townshend duties were paid, thus implicitly agreeing to accept Parliament's right of taxation.   • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    After officials in Boston, Massachusetts refused to give taxed tea back to Britain, colonists boarded the ship and destroyed the tea by dumping it into Boston harbor as a form of protest against the Tea Act.   • Boston Port Act

    Boston Port Act
    This was a direct response to the Boston Tea Party with Britain taking punitive measures against the colonists in hope to discourage and punish the colonists. This outlawed the use of the Boston harbor.   • Massachusetts Government Act

    Massachusetts Government Act
    The King of Britain made a law to take away the Massachusetts government and put someone he trusted in control, since the Britains thought the government there was the cause of their errant behavior. Once again, they were not fairly represented.
  • First Continental Congress

    This was a meeting between 12 of the 13 American colonies to figure out what to do to stop the Intolerable Acts. They tried to appeal to the crown, but their appeal failed.     Declaration of Independence is Adopted
