  • The French And Indian War

    The French And Indian War
    Took place between 1754-1763, the British and French believed they should own the Ohio River Valley for strategic reasons, for the fur trade, and for possible future settlements. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on February 10, 1763. Britain ended up taking almost all of North America and brought upon themselves a crippling debt that forced them to impose many taxes upon the colonists.
  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    A tax the British made to help pay for the French and Indian war. Raised taxes on sugar.
  • The Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act
    The Quartering Act of 1765 required the colonies to house British soldiers with them, this means all costs of them living there would come out of there pockets.
  • The Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act
    This forced colonists to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. This included ship's papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, other publications, and even playing cards were taxed.
  • British Troops In Boston

    King George III sent over troops to keep the peace. Colonists did not like this, they felt like they were being watched at all times.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was a street fight that occurred on March 5, 1770, a drunk mob of patriots went up to 5 british soldiers and started antaginizing them. They got violent and routy, the soilders fired back in panic.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The tax on tea led to merchants trying to smuggle it in. People greatly resented this act, and eventually rebelled against it.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    A political protest by the Sons of Liberty, disguised as indians they destroyed an entire shipment of tea sent by the East India Company. They boarded the ships and threw the chests of tea into Boston Harbor, resulting in a million dollars in lost tea.
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    These were laws that the colonists found so oburd and out of line, they named them the intolerable acts.
  • Lexington And Concord

    Lexington And Concord
    This is the first battle of the Revolutionary War. They met in a big field, no one knows who fired the first shot, known as "The Shot Heard Around The World."
  • The Second Continental Congress

    The Second Continental Congress
    Representatives from all 13 colonies met in Philidelphia. They eventually went on to write and pass the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
  • Declaration Of Independence

    Declaration Of Independence
    Arguably the most important document in all American history, this stated that the 13 colonies were no longer part of England. They would not be known as their own country called America.
