The Celts
The first inhabitants of the British Isles were the Celts. There are very few words today that came from the Celts however Leeds, River Avon and South Downs are some examples. -
The Romans
They invaded in 55BC and brought over the language of Latin. It did howevr have a big influence on our language a lot later on.
