    Vietnam War (French)

    With French control of Southeast-Asia, the resource-rich land took deprived Vietnam of prospering. The Nationalists(turning tro Communists) wanted independence and the French wanted a colony, and as a result, the Vietnam War for France begun. The French, however, lost the fight and surrendered to Ho Chi Minh- causing a split of Vietnam.
  • Creation of Israel

    Making up only 34 percent of the population, Jews were given 55 percent of the land in a partition created by the United Nations. Palestinians denied the partition and Israel's independence as it took from Palestinian land. Still, Israelis succeeded and Israel gained its independence.

    Korean War

    As a result of North Korea crossing the 38th parallel, South Korea called for the help of the United Nations. Korea was already split by the 38th parallel by communist and non-communist, and no solution came to the Korean War. North Korea's military increased, but economy plummeted, while South Korea industrialized and prospered.

    Vietnam War (American)

    Worried of a communist takeover, the Domino Theory frightened many Americans. As the likelihood of a communist victory began to increase, the US joined the Vietnam War to try and put an end to it. War was not favored by citizens at home in the US, and the US pulled out of the war, resulting in North Vietnam conquering South Vietnam.

    Arab-Israeli Conflict (1956)
    Conflict over the Suez Canal fueled the Arab-Israeli Conflict. Because Egypt took the Suez Canal, Britain, France, and Israel made an agreement to seize back the Suez Canal. Israelis and Egyptians were pressured to leave Egypt and Egypt was left in control of the Suez Canal.

    Bay of Pigs Invasion
    Frightened by Fidel Castro, the CIA trained anit-Castro exiles from Cuba to overthrow the government. However, the US didn't supply the exiles enough or give them the necessary support, and as a result, the exiles were defeated- and the USSR believed it was a sign that the US won't resist.

    Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a near miss to nuclear war. Because Soviets built missile sites in Cuba, the US demanded their removal and blockades around Cuba were created. With a threat of nuclear war, Soviets agreed to remove the missiles if the US didn't invade Cuba. The US also removed their missiles near the Soviets.

    Assassination of Egyptian President Sadat
    In an attempt at peace between Israelis and Palestinians, Sadat encouraged Israelis to recognize Palestinian rights. Egypt was the first Arab country to help Israel and accept their rights as independent. The Camp David Accords were signed to end tension between Egypt and Israel, but resulted in a Sadat's assassination by Muslim extremists.

    Ayatollah Khomeini is Supreme Leader of Iran
    With fear of Soviet influence, the US restored Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi back to power in Iran. However, with Khomeini leading opposition, the Shah leaves in fear and Khomeini takes hold of the government, creating an Islamic state in Iran.

    Assassination of Israeli Prime Minister
    With negotiations being made between Palestine and Israel, a proposal known as the Declaration of Principles (or Oslo Peace Accords) were produced in Norway to achieve peac. Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin accepted to Palestinian self-rule and signed the agreement. A Jewish extremist, angered by the agreement, assassinated Rabin.
