    A singnificant milestone in the develoment of democracy was a document called the Magna Carta which was passed in 1215 CE in England. It paved the way for the creation of a law-making body called the Parliament.

    The concept of democracy in America received a further boost afterthe American war of Independence in 1776. The 'Declaration of Independence', written by 'Thomas Jefferson' declared ' that all men are created equal and had the right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness'.
