-Adam called himself and his followers the Republicans and Jackson and his followers called themselves the Democrats -
Abraham Lincoln Elected President
-Abraham Lincoln was elected president
-Northern and Southern nominated different candidates
-Lincoln's election was the immediate cause of the Civil War -
Republican Domination
-Two parties were fairly evenly matched
-Democratic William Jennings Bryant appealed to farmers
-Republican William Mckinley endorsed gold -
The New Deal Coalition
-Nation slipped into a long, deep depression
-President Herbert Hoover tried to help but didn't succeed
-Franklin Roosevelt was elected the new president and helped the nation out of it's depression -
Republicans Control Congress
-The Demorcratic Party lost 8 seats in the Senate and 54 seats in the House of Representatives
-The Republican Party had control due to this
-Most people started to support the Republican Party
