Pocahontas was born as Matoaka to Pocahontas and Wahunsenaca (who will later be known as Chief Powhatan) and was raised by the Mattaponi tribe after her mother died giving birth to her at Werowocomoco -
How she supported this country
At age 12, Pocahontas rescued Captain John Smith after his capture by Chief Powhatan's men. She became a frequent visitor of Jamestown and important supplier of food to the colonists, and became an informer. -
Kidnapping
To force Powhatan's submission in war, Captain Samuel Argail held Pocahontas hostage. During captivity, she converted to Christianity and baptized as Rebecca. -
Marriage
Pocahontas married John Rolfe, a prominent colonist and recent widower. Her name got changed to Rebecca Rolfe. -
Children
Pocahontas gave birth to a boy, whom she later named Thomas Rolfe. -
Trip to England
The family containing Pocahontas, John Rolfe, and Thomas Rolfe, sailed to England as advertisements to the Virginia Company's success. -
Illness
Pocahontas fell ill while in england with her family. John Rolfe and POcahontas departed to London, where she later died. John Rolfe left Thomas in England to study rather than take him back to Virginia with him. -
After Death
John Rolfe, now serving as a colonial of rice and tobacco planter was killed by Powhatan's countrymen during Openchancanough's attack of 1622. -
