Freedom Riders
In Spring and Summer student volunteers took turns riding busses through the South to test laws of seregation. This event caused alot of confrontation and violence. -
Martin Luther's Arrest
Martin Luther King Jr. was arrested and put in jail during anti-segregation protests. -
March on Washington
200,000 people joined to MArch on Washington and Congregated at Lincoln Memorial, to listen to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.deliver his famour "I Have A Dream" speech. -
The 24th Amendment
The 24th Amendment abolishes the poll tax. Origionally it had insulted 11 southern states for Reconstruction making it hard for blacks to vote. -
Civil Rights Act
President Johnson signs Civil Rights Act of 1964. This act prohibits discrimination against all kinds. -
Voting Rights Act of 1965
Congress passes the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which made it easier for Southern African Americans to vote. -
Civil Rights Act of 1968
President Johnson signed the Civil RIghts Act of 1968, which prohibited discrimination in sales, rental and the financing of housing.
