    Continental drift theory pre-1910

Abraham Ortelius and several other geologists noted that Africa and sought America had seemed to fit together. They suggested that the Americas had been torn away from Europe and Africa. They said this had happened by earthquakes and floods.
  • Continental Drift

    Continental Drift
Alfred Wegener comes up with the idea of continental drift, the idea where all the continents were one supercontinent (which he called Pangaea) and had drifted away from each other over millions of years. When he presented the theory, many geologists didn't believe Wegener, because they found the evidence insufficient (What was pushing the plates?) . Wegener was also not a geologist, which further pushed its rejection.
  • Plate Tetonic theory

A development of Wegener's continental drift, which describes how the plates move by the Earth's lithosphere.
  • When they came up with it?

It was introduced back in 1912, however they did not take notice of it until 1950 when it was accepted into the geoscientific community.
  • The evidence.

Some of tyhe evedince that htey had was the fact that there were similar animal fossils on opposite ends or sides of the earth. Also how the continents seemed to fit together as a puzzle.
Well there are three ways the plates can move divergent, convergent, and transform plate boundaries.divergent boundary occurs when two tectonic plates move away from each other, convergent boundary is when two plates come together and transform plate boundarie is when two lpates slide past each other.
  • Hot Spots

John Tuzo Wilson thought of the idea of the Hawaiian Islands existence was caused by hotspots, which are areas of where the mantle escapes through the Earth's crust.
  • When did they come up with this idea?

The idea was brought up back in 1963 by a man named John Tuzo Wilson who actually came up with this concept of hot spots.
  • The evidence

Some of the evidence for the hot spot threory is the ring of fire where thousands of volcanos have formed. As well in many other points in the earth. At these hot spots magma is pushing its way throught the earth, when it breaks through to the surface it starts to from what we call volcanos.
And yes this theory is accepted.
