Liberty Tunnel (Liberty Tubes)
The tunnels are 5,889 ft long. The bores for both tunnels were completed in 1922 but the tunnel wasnt opent to traffic until 1924. The shafts for the middle of the tunnel are each 200ft then another additnal 110ft after the plant for the air supply. Fans push the air in the direction of traffic. The Liberty bridge wasnt complete until 1928. -
Liberty Bridge
The Liberty Bridge opend in 1928 and connected the Liberty Tunnels with Downtown. The bridge is 2663ft long and 44.4 ft of clearnce over the rivers right next to its piers. WIth the building of the bridge helped move traffic to and from town. -

Tropical Storm Agnes floods Pittsburgh
Tropical Storm Agnes flooded Pittsburgh at 35.82 feet.It was more than 10' above flood stage and was the 2nd worst flood to hit Pittsburgh. The flood would have been worse if it wasnt for the reservoirs and dams along the 3 rivers that were made after the St. Patricks day flood in 1936. -
F1 Tornado touches down on Mt. Washington
On Juune 2nd, 1998 a F1 tarnado ripped through Mnt. Washington in Pittsburgh, Pa. Sixteen people were killed from this tornado. -
Three Rivers Stadium gone
Three Rivers Stadium lived its last day. It was blown up and the newer stadiums were opend. PNC park is home to the Pirates and Heinz Field is home to the Pittsburgh Steelers. -
PPG Place redevelopment
Pittsburgh had a big boom with skyscrapers in the 1980's including the 6 PPG buildings. In the wonter they have a ice skating rink and in the summer they have a fountain. In this year the whole area was redevoloped. -

For the sixth time the Pittburgh Steelers won the super bowl and this year the city was know as the "City of Champions" because the Penguins also won the Stanly cup this year. -
Pittsburgh Penguins win their 3rd cup the same year the Pittsburgh Steelers wont the Super Bowl
On June 12th, 2009 the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanly Cup. It was their first cup since the back to back cup wins in 1991 and 1992.
