Pittsburgh Steelers History

  • The 1974 Draft

The Steelers personnel and coaches set the blueprint in terms of how to evaluate players for the team while building through the draft. I challenge anyone to compare bringing in four future Hall of Fame players all in the same draft.
  • Steelers Super Bowl, No.2.

In the first of three Super Bowls against the Dallas Cowboys, and the Steelers first back to back championships; the Steelers came out on top 21-17 in SB X in1976. Lynn Swan introduced himself to a national audience with a series of acrobatic catches that netted him the MVP, first Wide Receiver to ever earn that honor.
  • Steelers Super Bowl, No. 3

In a rematch against the Dallas Cowboys, seeking to become the first franchise to win three Super Bowls, the Pittsburgh Steelers lead by Terry Bradshaw’s aerial circus won SB XIII in 1979 35-31. MVP, Bradshaw.
  • The Hiring of Bill Cowher.

The torchbearer coming in behind the retirement of Coach Chuck Noll, Coach Cowher was a great hire in keeping with the Steelers tradition of toughness and achievement. After a dry spell of championships, Coach Cowher brought home the Lombardi Trophy in SB XL- 2006 and re-energized a franchise as well as a city. He gave the city 15 great seasons of Steelers football along with two Sporting News NFL Coach of the Year honors.
  • Steelers Super Bowl, Arizona Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Steelers.

SB XLIII (27-23 win) First team to win six Super Bowls. Two of the biggest plays in Steeler history took place in this epic game of twist and turns
  • The Ryan Shazier Moment.

This moment in Steelers History was so special, it didn’t even need a number. Generational players come along every once in a while that help defines the spirit of a team, thus a city. Our collective hearts broke seeing Ryan carried off of the field in Cincinnati, only to see our collective tears flow, as we watched him walk out to announce the pick for the Steelers during the 2018 draft.
  • The Immaculate Extension.

Playoffs at stake, with the game on the line,13 seconds on the clock and three players trying to hold Antonio Brown out of the end zone.
  • James Harrison

Deebo steps in front of Kirk Warner’s pass and now its, as he lumbered down the sideline with a convoy, scoring the longest interception in Super Bowl history.
  • The Hiring of Mike Tomlin.

This was a seminal moment for the franchise for a number of reasons. It marked only the third coach in Steelers modern history and the team’s first minority head coach as well. Additionally, he was the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl(SB XLIII) and has requited himself very well by bringing another Lombardi Trophy to add to the case in the offices. Two SB appearances and is still writing his story.
  • Joe Green

In the early days of the Steelers franchise evolution, when people thought or mentioned the team, the first name would be Mean Joe Green. He was so mean he didn’t even like himself let alone an opponent. He was Coach Nolls’ first draft pick when he took over as a coach and turned him loose on the NFL.
