In 1926, a rookie named Paul Waner joined the Bucs and batted .336. A year later, his brother Lloyd joined him and belted out 223 hits for a club rookie record .355 average and the Pirates were again National League champions. 1960 World Series vs the Yankees
The 1960 World Series was crazy. The Yankees won Game Two, Game Three and Game Six by a combined score of 38-3. The Pirates used great pitching, defense and timely hitting to stretch the Series to a seventh game at Forbes Field. The game was tied 9-9 in the bottom of the 9th inning. Bill Mazeroski came up to the plate and belted what is widely believed to be the best homer in of all time. A game 7 walk off. The pirates were world champs. -
Roberto Clemente’s final game
Roberto Clemente played 18 seasons for the pirates with a career .317 Batting Average. He is the best pirate of all time in my opinion. On Sept. 30, 1972, Clemente was entering his final game. The defending World Champion Pirates were taking on the Mets at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh. He got a hit on his final at bat. This was a historic achievement because it was his 3000th career hit. -
1979 World Series
Willie Stargell led the Pirates to a World Series championship in 1979. They have not won one since. -
The beginning of PNC Park
On March 31, 2001 PNC park opened. Widely considered to be the best park in baseball, PNC park has amazing view of the city of Pittsburgh above the outfield. -
2013 National League Wild Card Game
My favorite moment in pirates history. The only time I got to witness a successful pirates team. on October 1, 2013, The Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 6–2 and advanced to play the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Division Series.
