Jane Swisshelm published the Pittsburgh Saturday Visitor. Which later merged with the Pittsburgh Commertial Journal. -
Pittsburgh Doller Savings Institution
Nine deposits were made when the Pittsburgh Doller Savings Institution opened its doors to the public. This building was designed by Isaac Hobbs from Philadelphia. -
The railroad industry
During 1860, the railroad industry boomed. Large quantites of rails were being shiped in. -
The Civil War
The Civil War was between the Confederacy and the Union. This war lasted 4 years. -
Sanitary Commission
The Pittsburgh Sanitary Commission was developed to send medical aid to the injured soliders in the war. The Commission raised up to about $322,217. -
Westinghouse
George Westinghouse created the air brake. -
The Rodman Gun
At the time, The Rodman Gun was one of many created during the Civil War. At one point it was the largest gun in the world. -
Pittsburghs first incline
The Duquesne Incline was the first incline that Pittsburgh had. It was about 800 feet in legnth. It was closed, but reopend in 1960. -
Smithfield Bridge
The Smithfield Bridge was created by Gustav Lindinthal. It separated carrige and wagon traffic from horse drawn trollys. Then it was modernized in 1975 -

Berry Hall was a womens college, it is now known was Chatham University. -

The Duquesne Club was a group of the big bosses of buisness. -
The Homestead Strike
The Strike left 14 people dead. 11 steelworkers and 3 guards. The steelworkers were not getting paid enough money to survive and help their families. to they began a strike. -
Pittsburgh Pirates
At the time, the Pirates were one of the best teams in baseball. -
The Ferris Wheel
Suprisingly, the Ferris Wheel was made in Pittsburgh. It was created by George Ferris. The height was 250 feet above the ground. Sadly George Ferris died with very little money. -
Mellon Bank
Andrew William Mellon made money off of so many merchandises. Coal, steel, coke, railroads, oil and more. He created the Mellon National Bank. -
Luna Park
Luna Park opend on may 25 1905 on the old Aspinwall estate. The enterence was on Craig street and Baum Bolavard. -
Dr Conrad and wireless telephone
Dr Conrad was trying to create a wireless telephone, but ended up creating the KDKA radio station. -

Originaly, Pitt University was in the Northside, but it moved to Frick Acers which is now Oakland. -

In 1933, the Oyster house finally had 3.2% beer. People were so happy. -
St Patricks day flood
On the day of the flood, the only type of transportation was by rowboat of canoe. In some places, the water was over 20 feet deep. -
A visit from the president
Franklin D. Roosevelt came to Pittsburgh to inspect the Homestead Works and the Mesta Machiene plant. They were both very important producers of war armament. -
Pittsburgh building battleships
During World War II, Pittsburgh was making battleships. Battleships were moving down the Ohio River. On Memorial day, the LST-750 gave Pittsburgh residents 5 million dollers in war bonds. -
