The beginning of Pico Rivera can be traced back all the way to the 1870’s when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe and the Union Pacific railroads created rail lines around the area. -

Over the first few decades of the 20th century, the two communities, Pico and Rivera, were established and grew into an agricultural setting. -
El Rancho is Officially Opened
In September of 1952 El Rancho was officially opened in the Fall with only 3 classes for the students to attend. -
Mid-Beginning of Pico Rivera
After WWII and following into the mid-1950’s, housing demands sprang up and large areas or farmland were being sold to build new homes, and with that the two communities of Pico and Rivera grew closer. -
El Rancho Highschool Wins Award
In 1956 El Rancho High School was awrded The most beautiful and and best architrecurally designed school in the nation. -
The Becoming of Pico Rivera
Soon, by 1958, the leaders of said communities began to voice their ideas of an incorporation, and on January 7th, an election was held where more than 56% voters favored the incorporation. Then on January 29th, 1958
Pico Rivera officially became a city and was registered in the Los Angeles County. -
First Library Was Officially Opened
In 1960, the first library was officially opened and it was built with a monument for the soldiers. -
El Rancho High School Football Team Win
In 1960 the El Rancho football team was coached by the legendary coach Ernie Johnson with him they won the finals. -
Pico Rivera's 50th Anniversary
Pico Rivera celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2008. -
Pico Rivera's Growth
Pico Rivera has continued to grow. Now the city is around nine square miles, and has the population of almost 63,000 people as of 2010. -

Improving Modern Day Pico Rivera
Pico Park recently got several improvements that include a new community center, extra shading, several exercise stations, and a rubberized walking path along the entire park.
