Charles Darwin philosophy of science influences
Charles Darwin was born on 12 Feb 1809 and died on 19 April 1882. Darwin had huge impacts the scientific thinking throughout his life and even today. Darwin was able to thoroughly layout biology in relationship to natural laws. Darwin connected history to science implying that natural selection and evolution occurred over time with no breaks. The theory of evolution caused philosophers to rethink and question there ideas of science. -
Darwin's Voyage on HMS Beagle 1831-1836
In late 1831 Charles Darwin 22 years old, received a invitation to travel around the world on the HMS Beagle. Darwin would spin the next 5 years exploring the world and making notes about the different animals and the relationship they had with the region they lived. Some of the best observations came from a set of islands known as the Galapagos.This journey would eventually contribute to Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. -
The Galapagos Finches Jan 4, 1837
During Darwin's time spent on the Galapagos there was a great deal of time invested into observation. Particularly the finches that lived on the islands. Although these birds looked very similar, Darwin begin to notice small differences ranging from the size of the birds to the variations in the beaks of the birds in relationship to where these birds lived. Darwin collected different specimen's and in 1837 presented his findings to the Zoological Society. -
The Origin of Species Nov 24, 1859
The HMS Beagle would play a huge role in Darwin's Future. Once the journey had concluded Darwin began to lay the path for his book "The Origins of Species" or known as the theory of evolution. Darwin would site those Galapagos finches in the book and would account for variations of beak in relationship to food. Darwin Published his book The Origins of Species on November 24th 1859 and it is still considered one of the most influenced books in modern science.
