    Battle of Marathon
    The battle of Marathon took place in the city state of Marathon. the battle was between Athens and Persia, the battle was in 490 BCE. Athens was heavily outnumbered by the Persian military and had no chance of winning. despite the fact of being outnumbered Athens came up with a strategy that consisted of pressuring the sides of the Persian formation weakening the troops and winning the battle.

    Battle of Thermopylae
    the Athenians sure that the Persians would return they started to take extra defensive precautions. Athens build a 200 ship navy and set 7000 troops by a narrow passage in Thermopylae while Sparta also participated with king Leonidas sending 300 of the first soldiers of Sparta they held positions. An Athenian traitor led the Persians troops through the far end of the mountain far from Thermopylae so it was only the 300 spartan soldiers that held of the Persians losing the battle.

    The Battle of Salamis

    The Battle of Salamis
    the defeat in Thermopylae left Athens in a very vulnerable position. all Athenian had to evacuate to a large island salamis. while there Themistocles build and navy with all the men they had left. a Athenian messenger sent convinced Xerxes that the Greek fleet was sailing away through a narrow passage. Athens used this geographical advantage to finish of all the Persians ships,winning the battle for Greece easily winning the battle. this helped Greek win the war.

    The Delian League
    the greek city state triumph in defending themselves against the persian empire through cooperation their knowledge of their own geography and the additional element of surprise luck and courage. after the war athens was on the raise to a dominant power out of all the city state and because athens was the strongest in 478 BCE the Delian league was created to continue the struggle against persia. most city states helped out with providing money and other city states helped by giving men.
