The Establishment of the United Nations
The UN was established in 1945 in San Francisco, which main aims were to prevent interventions in domestic affairs, settle the conflicts peacefully, co-operate in solving global problems and it also strengthened the Wilsonian points. -
Truman Doctrine
The Truman Doctrine contained the containment policy, which stated that the smallest expansion of communism must be prevented, because due to the domino theory, one communist government in a nation leads to communist takeover in the neighboring states. -
Marshall Plan
The Marshall Plan was an American economic plan, which offered aid to all nations in Europe. It was 90% economic aid and 10% loan. The USA gained more influence in Europe. -
Paris Peace Treaties
The losers signed the peace treaties in Paris, including Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Italy and Romania. The countries had to pay reparations, Hungary kept its Trianon treaty borders, Italy lost its colonies and Fiume, Romania regained Transylvania, lost Bukovina and Bessarabia and Finland also lost territories. -

First Berlin Crisis
Stalin wanted to take over the whole city of Berlin, and he started a blockade in order to make the USA give up the city. However, the Americans solved this problem with the airlift, which meant that the bombers transported the essential items to the city, such as food, fuel. -
Comecon
It meant the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance offered by the USSR in 1949. It meant an economic organization of communist states. However, these countries were prohibited to accept Marshall plan and they could not choose their own economic policies. -
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
The NATO was established in 1949 meant a military support between the members in case of any foreign attack. -
Warsaw Pact
The pact was signed in Warsaw in 1955, which meant a mutual defense and assistance within the Eastern Block. It was led by the USSR. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
Due to the Cuban Missile Crisis the USA and the USSR came to the brink of a nuclear war, when they found Soviet missiles in Cuba (which were capable to hold nuclear warheads). The USSR finally removed these missile, and it led to the establishment of the hotline between the two superpowers. -
SALT I
The First Strategic Arms Limitation Talk happened in 1972, when the USA and the USSR agreed on arm control, meant reduction of the number of weapons especially nuclear ones.
