Performance Enhancing Drugs in Baseball

  • The First Test

  • 5-7% Test Positive

    Of the 1,438 players tested for PEDs, 5-7% of them tested positive for steroids.   • Barry Bonds Record Breaking Home Run

    Barry Bonds hit a record 762 home runs in his career, holds the record with 73 home runs in a single season, holds the record for most walks in a career/season, and holds the record for most intentional walks in a career/season. He has been voted into 14 All-Star games, has won 7 MVP awards and 12 Silver Slugger awards.

  • Mitchell Report

    George Mitchell publishes a report of his 21 month investigation of PEDs in baseball. The report named 89 MLB players that have tested positive of performance enhancing drugs.   • A Different Kind of Test

  • HGH Testing

    Players and Owners announce the agreement to add HGH Blood testing for Spring Training. MLB announced that players that test positve berfore the All Star game will not be able to participate. Nightengale, Bob. "MLB Toughens Drug Agreement Provisions."
  • Updated Suspetions

    MLB announces that they will increase the suspension to 80 games for the first positive test and 162 games for the second. A season long suspension will result in a loss of salary for that year, plus every game of the season.
