A period of leftist unrest following the reelection of Marcos. Many of the demonstrators (who were university students) were distraught at Philippine intervention in the Vietnam War and police brutality that came under the first term of the Marcos administration. The election was also accused of being forged.

Student activists orchestrate a protest in Mendiola Street, which was in front of the Malacañang (the presidential palace). After hijacking a firetruck and ramming its gates, soldiers were sent to quell the revolt and openly used gunfire on the protestors. About four students died.
