Archduke Franz Ferdinand

1914

Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria-Este, was a member of the imperial Habsburg dynasty, and from 1896 until his death. In 1914, Ferdinand was assassinated. His assassination was the cause of WWI.

He was a general and a west point graduate. He had fought in the Battle of San Juan against filipino rebels. In 1917, he insisted that soldiers should be well-trained before being sent to thw Western front.
