The Penguins play their first game of the season against their bitter rivals the Philadelphia Flyers. The Penguins beat the Flyers 3-1 with goals coming from Paul Martin, James Neal, and Chris Kunitz. The Penguins got revenge for their early playoff exit. -

Penguins first loss
The Penguins played their first home game of the season against the Toronto Maple Leafs and although they got goals from Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby were unable to win. They lost 5-2 to the Leafs led by forward James van Reimsdyk who scored two goals. -
Penguins first home win
The Penguins played against the New Jersey Devils and finally earned their first home win of the season. They beat the Devils 5-1 behind three point performances from both Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz who each had a goal and two assitst. -
Kunitz notches four goals.
The Penguins went to Washington to play against the Capitals and beat the Capitals 6-3. The Penguins won due the strong play from Chris Kunitz who became the first Penguins' player since Jaromir Jagr to score four goals in one game. -
Penguins trade Eric Tangradi
The Penguins trade Eric Tangradi to the Winnipeg Jets for a seventh round draft pick. As a Penguin Tangradi was never able to fully live up the high expecations and was eventually traded away. -
Penguins sign Defenseman Mark Eaton
The Penguins signed 15 year veteran Mark Eaton to a one year contract. Mark Eaton was on the Penguins' team that won the Stanley Cup in 2009 and he left the team a year after and went to the New York Islanders. Mark Eaton was a free agent who was close to retiring before the contract offer from the Penguins. -
Penguins offensive shootout sparks team
The Penguins got into an offensive show against the Montreal Canadians in Montreal. The Penguins beat the Canadians 7-6 in overtime behind two goals from Brandon Sutter and Matt Cooke and three points from Sidney Crosby. This win would start a potential 15 game winning streak for the Penguins. -
The Penguins acquire Brenden Morrow
The Penguins trade defensive prospect Joe Morrow and a third round pick to the Dallas Stars for forward Brenden Morrow. Morrow was the captain of the Dallas Stars and is a hard nosed grinding player who can play on either side of the ice. -
Penguins acquire Douglas Murray
The Penguins traded two second round draft picks to the San Jose Sharks for hard hitting defensive defenseman Doug Murray. Murray is a hard hitting defenseman that really takes it to the opposing team by finishing his checks and really hitting hard. -
Penguins acquire Jarome Iginla
The Penguins trade their first round pick and two other prospects to the Calgary Flames for veteran forward Jarome Iginla. Iginla was the Flames all time leader in points, goals, and assists, he was also the captain of the Flames and chose to go to the Penguins after many people thought he was going to the Boston Bruins. -
Penguins complete perfect March and win 15 straight
The Penguins shutout the New York Islanders 2-0 to complete a perfect March. The Penguins at this point have won 15 straight games behind steller play from the top offensive line of Sidney Crosby, Pascal Dupuis, and Chris Kunitz. The 15 straight wins is tied for second in the history of the NHL behind the 1993 Penguins' team that won 17 straight. -
Penguins winning streak snapped
The Penguins finally lose to the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 in Pittsburgh and get their 15 game winning streak snapped. The Penguins at this point had gained full control over the Eastern Conference standings though and were almost guarenteed a playoff spot. -
Penguins acquire Jussi Jokinen
The Penguins traded a conditional draft pick to the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Jussi Jokinen. Jokinen made his name in the league by being a great faceoff guy winning around sixty percent and being close to automatic in shootout situations. -
Penguins bounce back
The Penguins lost two straight games after the long winning streak and against the New York Rangers were able to bounce back behind new player Jussi Jokinen who scored both of the Penguins' goals in regulation and in the shootout leading the Penguins to a 2-1 win. -
Penguins win the division
After beating the Carolina Hurricanes 5-3 in Carolina the Penguins clinched their division and a spot in the playoffs. -
Penguins lock up home ice
The Penguins beat the Boston Bruins in Boston in what was a very emotional game after the marathon bombing incident, 3-2 and they clinched the number one seed in the playoffs and home ice meaning that the road to the Stanley Cup is going through Pittsburgh. -

The Penguins play their final game of the season against the Carolina Hurricanes in Pittsburgh.
