Paul meets the Maestro and is quite bewildered and also somewhat threatened by his demeanour, context and presentation. The basic idea is a juxtaposition - Paul's Australian life/world is contrasted to the European life/world of Herr Keller. This distinction was to have a profound effect on Paul over time. -
