Exploration of Africa
The exploration of Africa commenced due to the Portuguese search for a sea route to Asia, that didn't involve the Mediterranean Sea. Therefore, over the next two centuries, the portuguese explored land not far from the coasts creating limited trade. Later on, Africans, who wanted to control gold trade, denied the exploration of Africa's interior. -

In the late 1600s, Osei Tutu, military leader, conquered the Ansante kingdom as well as unified. During this time, their enemy kingdom, Denkyera, caused challenges. Therefore, Tutu only resort to resist the Denkyera were to be in union with his kingdom. Actions such as claiming his right to rule came from heaven and the kingdom's people were linked to spirituals bonds, were taken, Resulting in defeating the Denkyera. -

Sir Richard Arkwright developed a water powered machine that lead to the rise the Industrial Revolution. The industrial revolution was time period in which a surplus of jobs were created as well as social progress occured. -
Arkwright's Water Frame
Arkwright's Water Frame was a water powered machine that produced cotton in form of yarm, used for warp. Factories were opened in Nottingham and Cromford and as years gone by more factories opened. New factories were equipped with machinery that carried out all the phases from carding to spinning. -

Origins of Species was published in 1859, by Charles Darwin. In this book, Darwin expresses his idea that all form of life had evolved into the present state over millions of years. -
Social Darwinism/ Survival of the Fittest
Using Thomas Malthus's idea, Darwin concluded that the process of natural selection was known as "survival of the fittest". Meaning species physical traits must adapt to it's environment in order to survive.
Applying survival of the fittest to war and economic competition was known as social Darwinism. Also, Social Darwinism supported racism, one group of people were above another. -
