Japan Defeats China
Japan deafeats China taking over control of Northern China. This is the beginning of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Chinese and Japanese troops exchanged fire in the vicinity of the Lugou (Marco Polo) bridge, a very important access route to Beijing. Beijing and its port city of Tianjin fell to Japanese forces. This is important because a confused fight becomes a full out battle. Spraking more conlfict between Japan and China. -
U.S. Cracks Japanese Code
United States Naval Intelligence cryptographers crack Japan's secret communications code and learn that Japan intends to conquer China. People are now able to crack codes allowing people to see past plans. -
Roosevelt Warns Japanese
President Franklin D. Roosevelt warns the Japanese government to cease all aggression toward neighboring countries or else face United States forces. This is important because it is a precursor to even more Japanese aggression. This is followed by the Americans stop supplying Japanese with oil. -
Surprise Attack on Pearl Harbor
American's were awaken by an attack launched by Japan killing thousands and wounding thousands. Many ships were sunk and America had not been prepared because they knew that they were going to attack because they decoded a secret message but they did not know when or where they were going to attack. This angered the Americans and the Americans declared war on Japan on December 7th. Not only Pearl Harbor but also Guam, Hong Kong, and Wake Island was attacked. This helped turn the tide of the war. -
Battle of Midway
This was a turning point because airplanes prove themselves for significant then ships. The Japanese needed Midway because they wanted to keep a good distance from the Allies. Midway is also very significant because they can supply with froces and supplies from a east to west or west to east direction.
