    Prince Henry the Navigator from Portugal was urged to find a route around the Spice Islands, near India. In 1497-1498 Vasco da Gama found a way to sail all the way to India.

    In 1497 King Henry VII sent Cabot on a voyage to the West. Cabot landed on the far northern Atlantic coastnof North America.

    Christopher Columbus

    Christopher Columbus had a different idea, he though Asia could be reached by sailing West from Europe. He persuaded the king and queen of Spain, Ferdinand and Isabella to suport him in his adventure. He gave credit to the queen and king.

Europeans enjoyed lots of American foods such as potatoes, tomatoes, beans, and corn. Native Americansmade use of horses and cattle, which were introduced to the Americas by the Spanish.
