Muhammad was born in Mecca. He lived there for the first 52 years of his life. He was born to father, Abdullah (who died 6 mo before he was born) and his mother, Amina.

Muhammad's birth mother, Amina, died from illness when he was 6 years old. He became an orphan.

After the death of his biological mother, Muhammad was under the guardianship of his paternal grandfather (Abd al-Muttalib) until he died. Then, at the age of 8, Muhammad was under the care of his uncle, Abu Talib.

Muhammed worked for a wealthy widow merchant named Khadija, and eventually they were wed. He was 25 and she was nearly 40.

Muhammad was disturbed by Mecca's materialism and traditional idolatry. He fasted and medidated in a mountain cave outside town. After experiencing something divine, he was shaken but did not talk about it besides to his family.

After more divine experiences, Muhammad finally reveals his messages to his tribe. Eventually these would be gathered into the Qur'an, which is Islam's sacred scripture. Muhammad and his followers were ridiculed for their beliefs and the leaders of Mecca attempted to assassinate him

For three years, there were three major battles because the Meccans did not like Muhammad and his new religion's success. These were the Battles of Badr, Uhud, and Trench/Siege of Medina.

Power shifted away from the previously powerful Meccans, and Muhammad and his Muslims marched into Mecca in January of 630. They were jouned by the Meccans and there was no bloodshed as they entered Mecca.

Tens of thousands of Muslims joined him to perform one last pilgrimage to Mecca. Muhammad delivers his famous sermon that leads to starting conquests against Christians and Zoroastrians.

Following the pilgrimage to Mecca, he returned to Medina. There, he died three months after arrival, after a brief illness. He is buried in the mosque in Medina.
