Took control in 1878 and accused Servia of subverting its rule over Bosnia. Heir to the Austrian throne the Archduke Franz Ferdinand visited Bosnia visited Serbia, when he got there he was shot. He was shot by a member of the Black Hand which was an organization promoting Serbian nationalism. -

Germany Invaded Belgium
Germany was obligated by the triple alliance to support Austria-Hungary. After Austira-Hungary declared war on Russia, Germany declared war on Fance, and invaded Belgium, then Britain declared war on Germany and Austira-Hungary. They followed a strategy known as the Schlieffen Plan to invade Belgium. The plan was to send half their troops to Belgium and half to France and then the two would meet up to defeat Russia. -
A German U-Boat Sinks the Lusitania
Britian was blockading Germany and Germany conterblockaded with the U-boats. It was sunk off the suothern coast of Ireland. 128 of the people were Americans. This set the U.S. against Germany and the Central Powers. -

The Zimmerman Note is Discovered
A telegram from the German foreign minister to the ambassador in Mexico that was intercepted by British agents. The telegram proposed an alliance between Mexico and Germany and promised that if war with the U.S. brok out Germany would support Mexico in recoverting its lost territories. -
The United States Declares War on Germany
When the U-boats sunk the Lusitania 128 Americans were on the ship and so America was outraged. The Zimmerman note was intercepted and this further angered Americans. Fiaally after the Russian government was replaced with a representative Wilson declared war on Germany and joined Russia, France and England.
