Magna Carta
a group of determined barons forced king john to sign the magna carta (the greater charter). Guaranteed of such fundamental rights as trial by jury and due process of law. -
Petition of Right
Limited the power a king held over his subjects. Demanded that the king no longer imprison or otherwise punish any person but by the lawful judgement of his peers or by the law of the land -
Albany Plan of Union
Proposed the creation of an annual congress of delegates (represenatives) from each of the 13 colonies. Each would have power to raise military and naval forces, regulate trade, tax and collect customs. -
The Boston Massacre
Mob violence errupted at several ports, and many colonists supported a boycott of English goods. On march 5th 1770, British troops in Boston fired on a jeering crowd, killing five, in what became known as The Boston Massacre. -
The Boston Tea Party
A group of men disguised as native americans boarded three tea ships in Boston Harbor. Thet broke open the chests onboard and dumped the ships cargo into the sea to protest British control of the tea trade. -
Articles of Confederation
Established ''a firm league of confederation''. Each state kept it's sovereignty, freedom, and independance.
