Brought to Japan from Buddhist Monk Dokyo, The people of Japan have taken in the knowledge of paper manufacturing.
(610 A.C) Soon after (for the next one thousand years) paper folding was created. This gesture known as paper folding was soon known to be called Ori-Kata. -
The Box Of 500 Folds
By 1728, enough folds were known to allowed them to be collected into the Box Of 500 Folds. -
The First Ori-Kata book.
The first book about paper folding (Thousand Crane Folding) was written by Akisato Rito and published in 1797. This book was more about Japanese traditions then actual instructions. -

In 1880, The term Ori-Kata has become known as what we know today, also known as "Origami". -

Akira Yoshizawa is known as the "grandmaster of origami." Born in 1911, he first learned origami as a child. In 2005, he sadly passed away.
