    They Set Off To Sea
    The Pilgrims started off their journey on September 6th, 1620. The pilgrims had left in order to search for a new place to establish their community in the New World.
  • Man Overboard

    There was a young man on the ship who was very proud of himself because he was one of the seamen. He looked down on the poor people upon the ship and wished for them to be thrown overboard before the journey's end. This man was angered very easily and would swear bitterly. He ended up catching a disease and died and he was the first man who was thrown overboard. Everyone else among the ship realized that this was a work of God.

    In the depth of the winter during 1620-1621 half of the company upon the ship had died. The poor conditions of the journey caused many diseases among the people. Two or three people would die each day during the winter and by the time winter was over, only about 50 of the 100 people remained.

    On March 16th, 1621, the Englishmen met a certain Indian who spoke broken English., This Indian became profitable to them by making them familiar with many things concerning of the state of the country in the east parts. His name was Samoset. Samoset ended up introducing them to Squanto who spoke better English than him.

    The First Thanksgiving occured in the fall of 1621. The first Thanksgiving lasted three days between the Indians and the Pilgrims. Massasoit and about a hundred of his men feasted and played games with the Pilgrims.
