  • First controlled flight

    In 1903, the Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur achieve the first controlled flight in a successful airplane. They flew 4 times over the city of Kitty Hawk in North Carolina.
  • Special theory of Relativity

    Around the year 1905, Albert Einstein proposed the theory of relativity in a paper titled "On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies". This theory supposes that there’s a relationship between space and time.
  • Nobel Prize of Chemistry

    In 1911, Marie Curie won a Nobel Prize in Chemistry. She’s the first woman to have won a Nobel Prize.
  • Sinking of the Titanic

    The 14th of april 1912, the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg. Later that evening, approximately 2h40 minutes later, it sank to the bottom of the North Atlantic ocean.

    World War I

    Between the years of 1914 and 1918, the first world war happened. Also know as the Great War, it was the biggest international war the world had ever seen.
  • Influenza epidemic

    In 1918, there’s a global influenza epidemic. Toward the year 1920, around 20 million have died from this disease.

    The Great Depression

    In october 1929, the stock market crashed, making many banks and companies go bankrupt. Around the year 1933, the world was at its lowest, almost half America’s banks had closed and 15 million Americans were unemployed.
  • First transatlantic flight by a woman

    Amelia Earhart is the first woman to have completed a non-stop transatlantic flight in 1932. Later in 1937, she disappeared as she was toward Howland island.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act

    In 1938, the Fair Labor Standards Act is passed and it sets the first minimum wage of 0.25 cents per hour in the United States.

    In 1939, the second world war started and it later ended in 1945. It is important to mention that during this war, the Holocaust occurred, which caused around 5 to 6 million jews to loose their lives in horrid conditions.
