Tariff of 1828
This tariff on European goods was placed to protect the Northern industry, but there was unrest in the southern colonies. They felt as if the Northern colonies benefited mostly from the tariff because one goods that were taxed were mostly manufactured goods. Meaning that it would increase the demand for the industrialized North, nt helping the South. -
Nullification act
South Carolina passed this act to make the tariff illegal in the state. This of course was not allowed because it overruled the constitutional law that the government is supreme. -
tariff of 1832
This was made to mend to problems that brought up by the first tariff passed. This didn't work too well though. it lowered tariff, but it didn't help. -
Jackson Proclamation
Jackson's response to the ordinance of nullification. stated that the act of nullification was treasonous, and threatened to use force on the state if they did not comply -
Force Act
This gave Jackson the power to use military force on South Carolina
