    Chapter 1

    Bilbo is visited by Gandalf and his dwarves, they have a feast and convince Bilbo to come along on their journey to reclaim the lonely mountain.

    Chapter 2

    Bilbo is captured by trolls, the group attempts to save him, but instead they give themselves up in order to save him. Sunlight ends up killing the trolls. They find ancient elvish weapons in their cave.

    Chapter 3

    The expedition stops in the elvish city, Rivendell to get the runes on Thorin's map read.

    Chapter 4

    After leaving Rivendell into the Misty Mountains, a thunderstorm forces the expedition into a cave. They tie up the ponies and go to sleep, Bilbo wakes up at the sound of goblins stealing their horses, and alerts the rest. before they can react, they're tied and brung to the goblin king. Gandalf somehow wasn't tied, and kills the goblin king and leads them out of the cave. Dori drops Bilbo deeper into the cave.

    Chapter 5

    Bilbo finds the ring and is given riddles by Gollum. After multiple riddles, Bilbo asks "What have I got in my pocket?" playing off of the original challenge, to ask questions, not riddles. Because Gollum cannot guess, he goes to get the ring from the island. It's gone, so Gollum goes into a rage. He assumes Bilbo is ahead of him, so he leads the invisible Bilbo to the exit.

    Chapter 6

    Bilbo meets up with the group, not mentioning the ring. As they walk through the woods, They hear the growling of wargs. The company has to climb up the trees to escape the oncoming goblins and wargs. Out of nowhere, a bunch of giant eagles catch the dwarves and others and fly them to safety.

    Chapter 7

    Gandalf announces that he must leave, and brings the company to the house of Beorn, a half man half bear shapeshifter. Gandalf tells Beorn how they plan on traveling through Mirkwood. Beorn suggests against it, and taking the Northern Elvish path. Because they must be at the lonely mountain by Durin's Day, they can't risk taking such a long detour. Beorn warns Gandalf about the forest, saying it has many dark secrets, and the company to stay on the path.

    Chapter 8

    After entering the forest, They come to a stream that Beorn warned against touching. Bombur falls and lands in the water. This puts him asleep, making the rest of the company carry him. Strange lights distract them from each other. Bilbo awakens to spider silk bound around his feet, and a spider coming towards him. He slays the spider and leads the other spiders away from the hanging dwarves. Thorin is captured by Wood Elves and imprisoned.

    Chapter 9

    The rest of the company is captured by the wood elves and brought to the Elvenking. They too refuse to tell him where they are going and are imprisoned along with Thorin. Bilbo makes a plan to get them freed while invisible. They decide to take barrels down the river to Lake Town

    Chapter 10

    After arriving at the gates of Lake Town, Thorin goes to the town hall demanding that he get his inheritance from the mountain, the town celebrates and they take off to the mountain.

    Chapter 11

    After they arrive at the shore next to the mountain, the company, still without Gandalf, goes upon the ruined city of Dale. It's ruined, but still easily seen how prosperous it once was. They make their way to the back of the mountain, seeing how active the front entrance is. As they look for the secret door, they forget the riddle that they had read by the elves. Bilbo, still thinking, sees the last ray of the sun cast a beam on the keyhole, allowing them to insert the key and open the door.

    Chapter 12

    After being nominated to go and explore, BIlbo does a little snooping around and brings back a golden cup to the dwarves. Smaug notices and becomes enraged. after eating their ponies outside, he fakes sleeping inside. Bilbo returns to the great hall and is greeted by Smaug. Because of the ring, Bilbo is safe, but Smaug can smell and hear him. Bilbo answers in riddles, entertaining the dragon. After seeing a scale missing from his belly, he roars and an avalanche traps them inside.

    Chapter 13

    The dragon flies to Lake Town to destroy it, after assuming Bilbo is a part of them. The dwarves enter Erebor, greeted by literal oceans of gold and gems. They decide to get food from the king's chamber. Bilbo finds the Arkenstone and hides it from Thorin.

    Chapter 14

    The dragon flies down to Lake Town and is greeted with arrow fire from the town military. Bard, the Archer Captain, hears about the scale missing, and fires an arrow into the dragon, killing it. Elves and humans march towards the mountain, requesting resources and money for what they just lost.

    Chapter 15

    Bard and the elves ask for gold, since they killed the dragon and their home is destroyed. Thorin refuses, which starts a big conflict.

    Chapter 16

    Bilbo gives the Arkenstone to Bard to be used for bargaining, Thorin begins to get angry at Bilbo, Gandalf demands him to back down. Because of the contract, bilbo had the ability to take his share of treasure.

    Chapter 17

    After the dwarf army arrives, intending to fight the elves and humans, the goblin and warg armies arrive, starting the battle of the 5 armies

    Chapter 18

    After bilbo is knocked out by a rock, he awakes to the battle mostly over. He is carried to a camp by Gandalf, and given the chance to say goodbye to Thorin, who is fatally wounded. Fili and Kili are both dead. Gandalf explains how the eagles swooped in and turned the tide of the battle in their favor.

    Chapter 19

    Bilbo, Gandalf, and Beorn travel home, avoiding Mirkwood this time, and they stay at Beorn's home over the winter, they go to Rivendell and tell stories of the battles fought and mountain reclaimed. Bilbo returns home to his items being auctioned off since he was presumed dead.
