    Birth
    I was born in Brooklyn, New York. Both my parents were born in P.R. My father liverd in P.R. until he was an adult, then moved to N.Y. My mother went to live in the U.S. when she was 5 years old. My father speaks spanish. My mother is bilingual.
  • First School Experience

    First School Experience
    When I was 3 years old, I began my first year in Head Start. I was there for two years. I started to learn to speak a second language.
  • Elemantary School

    I studied in Brooklyn, N.Y. until 1988 when we moved to P.R. I had problems with my Spanish classes. I could speak spanish but not read or write it well.
  • My high school year

    My high school year
    I finally could speak, read and write both languages very well with the help of my parents and teachers. I graduated with honors.

    I enterd the University of Puerto Rico with one goal, finish my B.A. in Elementary School Education, certified in English.
  • My First Year as a teacher

    My First Year as a teacher
    I began working in Private School El Despertar as a Kindergarten teacher. The administration offered me a challenge, to start the first bilingual group in the school. I accepted the challenge.
  • First Bilingual Program

    First Bilingual Program
    With little to no experience, I began the first bilingual Kindergarten program in that school in 2002. I trained myself by looking up information and talking to experienced teachers in this field. I was a bilingual Kindergarten teacher from 2002 to 2009.
  • Graduation

    I graduated with a B. A. in Elementary Education in the University of Puerto Rico, Arecibo. But did not complete my English certification due to the lack of courses.
  • A new beginning

    A new beginning
    This was my first year working as a Bilingual Kindergarten teacher in Joaquin Vazquez Cruz Bilingual Public School. Even though the curriculum was different, my experience helped me through the first year in public school.
  • Bilingual Summer Camp

    Bilingual Summer Camp
    I worked as a spanish teacher working with C.A.D.E (Centro de Adquisicion y Desarrollo del Español). Working with English speaking students that had Spanish language limitations.
  • English Certification

    I decided to continue my English Cerification in the Universidad de Puerto Rico, Utuado.

    Cambiam Workshops
    In C.A.B.A. Aguadilla, taking workshops with Cambium to acquire knowledge, assessment strategies and activities for teaching a bilingual class.
