    Together with Morris Halle, Chomsky founded the Department of Linguistics at MIT due to the lack of official recognition for linguistics as an academic discipline. He was (and still is) one of the leading professors in Linguistics. As a tribute to their pioneering contributions, MIT formally dedicated the department to Chomsky and Halle in the Spring of 2022.
