When track athlete,Phil Knight, ran for the University of Oregon he learnt that his coach, Bill Bowerman, aspired to create a running shoe for his athletes that provided lighter and more durable support. Phil Knight wanted a way to earn a living without giving up his love for sport, so he collaborated with Bowerman to pursue the creation of a superior running shoe. -
Blue Ribbon Sports
When Phil traveled to Japan on a world tour, he arranged an interview with the Japanese shoe manufacturer Tiger. He introduced himself as the representative of an American distributor who was interested in selling Tigers shoes to Americans. After being asked who he represented, Knight came up with the name Blue Ribbon Sports and soon after placed his first order for their shoes. -
Sales Are Made
Knight placed his second order after making an amount of $8000. Knight and Bowerman decided to hire a full time salesman, Jeff Johnson. -
Nike and its Swoosh
Nike was named after the winged Greek goddess of victory. Caroline Davidson, who studied advertising met Phil Knight while he taught accounting and she began freelancing at his company. After asking her to design a logo to place on the shoe, she created the swoosh which represents the wing of the goddess. Knight decided to change the brand name after he achieved success and reached over $1 million in sales. -

Nike Rises
Nike rose higher in it's success, going from $10 million in sales, to $270 million. Phil Knight stated, "If Nike didn't start the fitness revolution we were at least right there. And we sure rode it for one hell of a ride." -
Nike signs Jordan
Nike decided to sign basketball star to their company. by doing this the Nike shoe expanded in its designs and supplied basketball shoes also. In the first year of this shoes production, they made $800,000 of sales for the Air Jordan's alone. -
Nike Air Pegasus 25
The Nike Air Pegasus is the most affordable Nike shoe option and has been around for 30 years. Named after the Greek winged horse, it provides flexibility, quickness and added cushion.
