When Africa was colonized, boundaries were created but the African people were disregarded during the creation of these boundaries. Nigerian reigons were renamed because it made it easier for the British to identify them. The British also made sure that a chief who did not resist them controlled each village and city. -

Women were economically dependent on men. This was because the British took away the land that the Nigerian women used for crops. Their agricultural economy was destoryed. The women were then forced to become waged laborers. The people became upset when the British also taxed them.
