Bohr model

Niels Bohr

  • Niel Bohr Birth

Niels Bohr was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 7th, 1885.
  • Bohr's model of Atomic Structure

In the spring of 1912, he was working in Professor Rutherford’s lab, Using the theory of Quantum mechanics as described by Planck, Bohr was able to describe a model of the atomic structure, thus known as Bohr's model of atomic structure. citation: Niels Bohr – Biographical. • Nobel Prize

In 1922, Bohr was presented with a Nobel prize for his work on atomic structure.
  • The Great Debate

On May 15, 1935, The Physical Review published Einstein’s paper which refuted Quantum theory, claiming that to describe reality you must have firm predictions followed by direct observations. Bohr challenged Einstein and upheld the theory of Quantum theory, claiming that “the mere act of indirectly observing the atomic realm changes the outcome of quantum interactions… quantum predictions based on probability accurately describe reality” (“The Great Debate”). https://youtu.be/8PUi0I02Mdc
  • Bohr worked on atomic weapons

After World War two started, Bohr was forced to flee Europe and head to the United States. He joined many scientists in Los Alamos who were working on the “exploitation of nuclear energy for war purposes” (WEISSKOPF, 594). Bohr believed that atomic weapons, though destructive, could work to bring about a better future and should be shared among the West and East

  • Bohr death

Niels Bohr died on November 18, 1962, at home after a stroke.
