Education
Niels Bohr started his undergraduate education at Copenhagen University in 1903 majoring in physics. Bohr received his Masters Degree in 1909 and Doctorate in 1911. -
Bohr Atomic Model
Niels Bohr proposed the stability of atoms on a fixed orbit around a nucleus. https://youtu.be/fm2C0ovz-3M -
Period: to
University of Copenhagen Chair
Niels Bohr was appointed as the Chair of Theoretical Physics. in 1918 Bohr established the University Institute of Theoretical Physics. -
Niels Bohr Institute
The Niels Bohr Institute was founded in Copenhagen. Niels Bohr was known to have created the groundbreaking atom model, forming our initial understanding of the building blocks of the world. Bohr gave us a better understanding of quantum mechanics, allowing for the advancement and leading to revolutionizing technological development. -
Nobel Prize
"The Nobel Prize in Physics 1922 was awarded to Niels Henrik David Bohr "for his services in the investigation of the structure of atoms and of the radiation emanating from them."(The Nobel Prize in Physics 1922. NobelPrize.org. Nobel Media AB 2019. Sun. 24 Mar 2019) -
Period: to
Manhattan Project
Bohr, a key fission researcher, determined that a rare U-235 isotope was the isotope that made uranium fissionable, making a chain reaction possible. Bohr however, did not think that the Atomic Bomb would be possible in the near future due to the U-235 isotope composing less than 1% of uranium. (Helen Hawkins, G. Allen Greg, and Gertrud Weiss Szilard, editors, Toward a Livable World: Leo Szilard and the Crusade for Nuclear Arms Control, pg. xxix). -
