To prevent colonists from using foreign ships and selling to foreign buyers. The outcome was an increase in smuggling. -
Proclamation of 1763
To temperarily prevent the Westward expansion and to set the Appalachian Mountains. Westward movement slowed and angered colonists. -
Sugar Act
To gain revenue on taxes not collected previously and to catch smugglers. Colonists Angry,feel violated, trial by vice-admirality courts for smugglers. Tax now collected (even though lowered) and soldiers can search and seize whatever they want. -
Stamp Act
To put a tax on almost all things printed. Colonists stop buying things imported from Britain. -
Declaratory Act
To show colonists that Britain could tax them without their representation. Britain has ability to tax colonists "in all cases". -
Townshend Acts
To put a tax on external imports such as glass, tea, and paper. Colonists have to pay tax at port of entry, colonists now angry at all and any taxes from Britain. -
Tea Act
The act allowed the company to sell directly to shopkeepers and bypass colonial merchants. Merchants angry and calling for a boycott. -
Coercive Acts (Intolerable Acts)
To punish the people of Massachusetts for their resistance to British Law. Closed Boston Harbor, rights stripped, Bostonians forced to quarter soldiers. -
Quebec Act
To set up Government for Quebec. Gave Quebec land West of Appalachians.
