Truman Doctrine
Truman asked for 400 million dollars in aid for Greece and Turkey after Britan had to withdraw their troops. This doctrine essentially said it was the US's job to help countries threatened by Communism. -
Policy of Containment
George Kennan argued that a policy of containment was neccesary to keep communism within it's exsiting voundaries and prevent Soviet aggressive moves. -
Marshall Plan
Stated that Communism was successful in countries with economic problems. Therefore to prevent the spread of communism, this plan provided 13 billion dollars to help rebuild Europe. -

Berlin Airlift
The Soviets decided to make a blockage of West Berlin, causing no one to enter West Berlin.. Food and supplies were also blockaed against the 2.5 million peope living there. American and British airplanes flown in millions of supplies. -
NATO
The U.S and it's European Allies formed the North Atlantic Treaty Organization known as NATO. This was one side of the Cold War. -
Federal Republic of Germany
The Federal Republic of Germany or "West Germany" was created. It's capital was Bonn. -
Soviet Union's First Atomic Bomb
The USSR first developed and tested thier successful atomic bomb. -
Communist China
Chiang Kai-shek lost control of China and commie Mao Sedong announced the new People's Republic of China. This caused many Americans to be scared of the communist spread. -
German Democratic Republic
The German Democratic Republic also known as East Germany was set up by the Soviets. East Berlin was it's capital. -
Korean War begins
US, USSR, and China all engage over whether Korea should be democratic or communist. -
Stalin dies
Stalin's death led to a delima in the Soviet Union because he was the sole power of it. -
Korean War Ends
North Korea ends up being communist, and South democratic. Still remains today. -

In 1955, The Soviet Union and its European Allies formed the Warsaw Pact, which was the Communistic side of the Cold War. -

Fidel Castro overthrew Cuba and set up a Soviet supported governement in Cuba. -

Congress passed this to allow Johnson to do whatever he thinks was necessary ro promote peace in Asia. -

North Vietnam won this battle which lead to a turning point in the war for communism.
