On April 10, 1606, King James I of England issued the First Virginia Charter which created the Virginia Company. It authorized eight Englishmen to colonize "that part of America commonly called Virginia". This is what started the Colonial America Time Period.

Slavery started to begin in the colonies, as twenty Africans were brought by a Dutch ship to Jamestown for sale as indentured servants.

Eventually, New Netherlands became New York and was settled by the Dutch. They were referred to Peter Stuyvesant and Peter Minuit.
