The P-40 was the plane that patrolled the southwest especally around New Mexico. It wasent used much overseas but it protected our borders, especally mexico. This is when the Grumman TBF Avenger was first flown. It was a torpedo bomber built to take out submarines and other watercraft. It protected new mexico from several sub attacks even though we are not close to water. It was a very importent plane to our national safety. This is why it was importent to new mexico and country in general. -

This is areal view of pearl harbor as the Japanese bombed it. This is the date of when the japanese bombed pearl harber. This is importnet to new mexico because it was the reason we entereed the war to begin with. -
The battle ends
This is a picture of the Japanese warriors emerging victorious over the allies in the Phillipines. This is when the Batann battle ended. It is importent because it was a very violent and bloody battle and it lost many lives, in cluding many New Mexicans. -
The bomber
This is the side of the Enola Gay with one of the piolets inside. This is the date the the Boeing B-29 Superfortress was first flown. The B-29 was the model of plane that dropped the atomic bomb. The name of that specific plane was the Enola Gay. It was importent to new mexico because the piolets were trained here and the plane was stationed here. It also dropped the atomic bomb that was made here. -

This is the date of when the Bell P-59 Ariacomet was first flown. It was the first turbojet that the world had seen. It was primarly stationed in new mexico and some of the southwest during the second half of the war. This is why it was importent. -

These are the original 29 Navajos that were in the military. Some of these were the code talkers. This is when the first unit of code talkers were established. This is importent because it was the first time navajos could truly serve their land. -

This is the route of the Bataan Death March. This is the start of the Batann death march. Where all the captured soliders in the Phillipines were forced to march to the prison camp. The condictions were terrible and many died along the way. This is importent because many men from new mexico were there. Some died and some lived to tell the tail and got to come home to their famlies. -

This is the front gate of the base. This is when the Kirtland Airforce base was built. This is importent to New Mexico because it helped protect our state and train piolets for bomber planes, that would eventually drop the atomic bomb. -
The other base

These are the Holloman fighters. They are some of the most advanced sealth bombers in the country. This is when Holloman air force base was built. It used to be called Alomogordo air force base. It helped train piolets and foot soldiers for the war. This is why it was importent to New Mexico. -
The third base

This is the runway for Cannon AFB. This is when Cannon air force base was built. It trained soldiers for the war. It also taught soliders how to man anti aircraft guns and how to fly B-17 planes. This is why it was importent. -
The night bomber
This is a picture of a F7F turning in the air. This is when the Grumman F7F Tigercat was first flown. The F7F was stationed here is New Mexico. It was a plane made for night combat. It patrolled our borders as well as conducted raids on enemies during the night. This is why it was importent to new mexico. -

This is Earnie Pyle with his dog, just a few years before his death. This is when Earnie Pyle was killed by a machine gun. This is importent because he was from new mexico and showed what life was like for New Mexican soliders on the base and during war. -
The test
This is a picture of the trinity site today. The black is the crater from the blast. This was the date of the first test of the atomic bomb. This created the Trinity site. It also was the start of the atomic age.
This was importent to new mexico because it was the first succsesful bomb test and it started the nuclear age. -

This is a post war model of Little Boy at the Smithsonion. This is when we dropped Little boy on Hiroshima. This is importent because the bomb was made in new mexico and it was the start of the end of the war. -
The second bomb
This is a model of Fat man at the Bradbury Science Museum. This is when we dropped Fat Man on Nagasaki. This is importent because the bomb was made here and in ended the war with japan, -
The surrender
This is a image of Japan signing the document of surrender to the United States. This officially ended WW2. This is when Japan surrendered to the United States.
This is importent to New Mexico because it ended ww2 and all the men were allowed to come back home. -
