Home Owners Loan Coroporation
The Home Owners Loan Corporation (HOLC) was a government-sponsored corp, created as part of the New Deal, Its goal was to provide people with the ability to refinance home mortgages and to prevent forclosure. This helped deal with the depression because it dropped the number of mortgages from 5,778 to 864. This coorporation is still in use today. -
Emergency Banking Releif Act (EBRA)
EBRA was put in place by congress in 1933. This act called for a four-day required shutdown of U.S. banks for inspection before they could reopeson so they could start re-stabilizsing banks after the stock market crash.
It ended march 13 1933. -
Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA)
The AAA way put in place during the Depression paying farmers cash not to grow plants on their land and to kill off excess livestock. Its main reason was to reduce crop surplus and therefore effectively raise the value of crops. Farmers could still earn money from crops, even though the value It was was a United States federal law of the New Deal era. This act iteself is no longer actice, but their are other administations alike this one. -
Tennesee Valley Authority
The Tennessee Valley Authority (T.V.A.) is a federally owned corporation. The United States was set in action by the congressional charter in May 1933 to help provide navigation, flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing, and economic development in the Tennessee Valley, a region devistatingly affected by the Great Depression. It was put in place by Senator George W. This is still in effect. -
Federal Emergency Releif Administration (FERA)
FERA was an administration as a result of the Federal Emergency Relief Act. Its main point was to provide households that had unemployment with job by creating new unskilled work in local and state government. Also, FERA helped combat the great depression because it created more jobs, and with more jobs it helped maintain a minimum standard of living throught the country. (ended Dec. 1935) -
Federal Housing Administration (FHA)
FHA is a United States government agency that put together the National Housing Act of 1934, it is still around today and it sets minnimums for construction and underwriting and insures loans from banks and other private lenders for home building. it was put in place to improve housing standards and conditions. it worked in par with the HOLC. It also helped stabilize the mortgage market during the depression and continues to do so. -
National Youth Adminitration
The National Youth Foundation (NYA) scoped on providing work and education for Americans between 16 and 25 during the depression, NYA was orchestrated until the June of 1939 as part of the Works Progress Administration. This Foundation was created during the depression inorder to to maintain their potential work ethic for achievement, goals, and societal contribution in the futire. To add, it was also put in place to help prevent the people already enrolled in a university from dropping out. -
National Labor Relations Act
This act translated unfair labor practices and established the National Labor Relations Boardd to settle feuds between employers the emplyees. It also lets employees organize into trade unions and fight for collective bargaining for better terms and conditions at work. This is still in use today but was more commen during the depression when working conditions were not totally met. -
Social Security Administration (SSA)
The SSA is an independent agency of the United States federal government that oversees Social Security, a social insurance program such as retirement, disability, and survivors benefits during the depression. It is still around today, -
The Food,Drug and Cosmetic Act.
The Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act is a cluster of laws enacted by Congress in 1938 giving power to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to overlook the safety of food, drugs, and cosmetics. It was put in place to provent mislabeled consumer items, basically saying that companys have to tell us what is in their product. This act is still in use today. It was put in effect after 100 people died from a mislabeled drug known as, diethylene glycol.
