20th chapter
Mowat learns that the reason wolves do not run after caribou is because they are all aware that wolves cannot outrun a caribou, unless of course, it is young or weak/ill. -
1st chapter
Mowat becomes interested in animals after he´d found 2 catfish near his grandmas house in a pond, than it shows Mowat graduating (from collage), and he finds a job to help research the caribou population, and confirmation that wolves were indeed the cause.
*note i have no idea when this happened(I dont know maybe i missed something), so im just going to put everything so it is in order on the whole timline -
2nd chapter
Mowat went to churchill, and had to find a plane to take him to the back country and a hunter shows Mowat how to make ¨wolf juice¨ while he is waiting. -
3rd chapter
when he does get a plane, when he gets off he gets dropped off on a frozen lake where he stays to make contact with ¨the subjects¨ as they are called. -
4th chapter
Mowat makes a makeshift/temporary radio tower and somehow manages to signal somebody in Peru who says he can send a message back to Ottowa, though it is messed up through the error made by the middle man in Ottowa as Farley Mowat was identified as ¨Varley Monfat¨. -
5th chapter
Mowat think that the wolfs are after him, so he hid under his canoe, though it turned out that the ¨wolves¨ after him were sled dogs owned by a guy named mike -
6th chapter
after a night of not being able to sleep, Mowat goes out to look for wolves yet again. He finds 2 playful wolves(playful as they are playing tag) and later can find their den where they live. -
7th chapter
after settling in Mowat goes to look for wolves. During one of his midday, he took a break, only to realize that he was being watched 2 wolves the whole time. -
8th chapter
after Mowat found the wolves den, he set up camp closer to it. Mostly the wolves ignore him as they have their territory, and Mowat deicides to do similarly, and mark his own territory. -
9th chapter
Mowat begins to grow quite fond of the wolves and starts to give them names like George or Angeline. -
10th chapter
Mowat takes interest in the wolves diet and why they aren't eating the caribou as much. He soon figures out they are eating mice, though he needed evidence. -
11th chapter
Mowat uses himself as a test experiment to see if he can sustain himself on a diet of only mice, so he can prove that is what wolves are doing. -
12th chapter
Mowat meets Mikes(the wolf juice guy) cousin Ootek who can tell him a load about wolves that he didnt know already. -
13th chapter
Mowat learns that mike can communicate with wolves, and gets proof when he tells that the wolves told him where caribou would be, and they are there. -
14th chapter
Geroge starts taking Angeline hunting with him while Albert takes care of their puppies, than the wolves move to another location as Ootek had said it was because the pups were getting too big. -
15th chapter
Uncle alert falls in love with one of Mikes sled dogs(Kooa is the sled dog), so Mike brings her around. -
16th chapter
After the pup moved to their other home Mowat hasn't been able to be with them as much. when he does see them he saw Angeline give them(by that I mean regurgitate food, ew gross) a bunch of food and started to eat. -
17th chapter
the wolf pups have grown enough to the point where they managed to take down a caribou and let the adults take a rare day off of hunting, and gave them a day to laze around and sleep. -
18th chapter
Mowat goes out to learn the number of wolves in the area total, and it totaled out to about 30k or one per 6 miles, though Mowat estimated about 1 per 2sq.miles -
19th chapter
Mowat stays in a tent that one of the familys in Ooteks village set up in a way to catch the caribou running across the river. Ootek stays for a bit to help, and Mowat uses the alone time to relax. after seeing some wolves running he chases after them as he is(without clothes because he was sunbathing naked, as he was alone) and seeing them not hunting, ut playing with caribou.
